Ministry Bans 19 Radicalism-Suspected Websites

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ismail Cawaidu, spokesman for the Communication and Information Ministry, said that ministry had sent a letter to the Internet Service Providers (ISP) to block 19 websites considered to contain radical teachings. Request to block the websites was initially delivered by the National Agency for Counter Terrorism. A total of 70 websites considered to promote radical teachings have been banned by ISPs up until the end of last week.


Semuel A. Pangerapan, Head of the Indonesia Internet Service Provider Association confirmed that ISPs will always follow the Ministry's recommendations regarding websites that are considered to be dangerous. "We always keeping up with the list of dangerous websites listed in the Ministry’s Trustpositive list," Semuel said on Monday, March 30, 2015.


Semuel said that the Communication Ministry continues to update the list of forbidden websites as situation develops. Therefore, Semuel claimed that he was not surprised when websites suspected of radicalism are being blocked as it gain increased traffic.


Semuel however, said that ISPs has no authority to declare which website is dangerous


The 19 websites that are going to be banned include:
