ASEAN to Proceed with Open Skies Policy This Year
Jumat, 20 Maret 2015 09:18 WIB
TEMPO.CO , Jakarta - ASEAN member countries have reached an agreement that the open skies policy would still be applied this year in accordance with the enforcement of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015.
Malaysian Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai said he was optimistic the policy would go through albeit the Philippines had yet to sign the memorandum of understanding (MoU).
"We're signing it with the Philippines this year. The policy is a step forward and we hope to have harmonized regulations so that the market will see more growth that will benefit all the 10 countries under ASEAN.”
Liow said the aim of the open skies policy was the consolidation among ASEAN countries, especially in the aviation industry.
He added that the ASEAN committee had also engaged in dialogues with China, Japan and South Korea, who had promised to offer support.
