Indonesia, South Korea Aim to Strengthen Strategic Partnership in Vice Ministers Meeting in Seoul

TEMPO.CO, JakartaIndonesia and South Korea are committed to continue strengthening the Special Strategic Partnership to advance various mutually beneficial cooperation. This was emphasized during the 2nd Vice Ministers' Strategic Dialogue between the Indonesian Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Pahala Nugraha Mansury, and the First Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Korea, Kim Hong Kyun, on Wednesday, March 13, in Seoul.

The meeting also stressed the importance of continuing various bilateral mechanisms between Indonesia and South Korea, such as the Foreign Minister's Joint Commission's Meeting (JCM), Strategic Dialogue, High-Level Dialogue on Investment (HLDI), and Joint Committee on Economic Cooperation (JCEC) to encourage mutually beneficial cooperation.

According to the release from kemlu.go.id, the two vice ministers agreed to optimize the implementation of the Indonesia-Korea Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IK-CEPA) and encourage the implementation and expansion of cooperation in strategic sectors such as the development of electric vehicle (EV) ecosystems and EV batteries in Indonesia, energy transition, infrastructure, health, critical mineral supply chain cooperation, employment, and maritime.

The two vice ministers also reaffirmed the two countries’ commitment to continue to strengthen partnerships within the framework of ASEAN-ROK, MIKTA, APEC, and G20, support each other's candidacy in various multilateral forums, and exchange views on the issues of Palestine, Myanmar, and the Korean Peninsula. The ROK's Vice Minister also expressed the country’s support and readiness to assist Indonesia's accession process to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

On the sidelines of the event, Pahala Mansury, accompanied by representatives of Pertamina, Pupuk Indonesia, and BNI also held one-on-one meetings with several well-known Korean companies such as POSCO International, POSCO, Future M, Hyundai, Motor Company, KIND, and KIC, in order to roll out the "Indonesia Go Global" initiative and encourage investment and partnerships of Indonesian SOEs with partners in South Korea.
