Thousands Stage Rally to Support Ahok

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Thousands of people on Sunday, March 11, 2015 gathered at Hotel Indonesia Roundabout to voice their support for Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, better known as Ahok.


At 8am local time, an estimated of 2.000 people attended the event, dubbed in the social media with the hashtag #SaveAhok#CFDGueAhok.


According to a Twitter account @temanAhok, which became the source of the information for the event, the mass joining the rally wore a mark with Ahok’s picture. The mass brought posters bearing words of support for Ahok.


In the meantime, The netizens also took to Twitter to voice their support to the governor.


"Let’s be united to fight against 106 members of the Jakarta council,” tweeted @DenySambodo.


Another account tweeted: “Those who do not defend Ahok in the case of irregularities of the Jakarta Regional Budget fall under two categories: those who are involved and those who enjoy it.”


For the record, the rally was part of the public support to voice their support for Ahok, who is at loggerheads with the Jakarta council. Ahok suspected that the Jakarta regional council proposed several suspicious plans that cause irregularities in the regional budget worth Rp12.1 trillion.
