IS Shot Down Syrian Jet

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Hardline Islamic State (IS) militants has shot down a Syrian fighter jet that were bombing areas controlled by the Syrian opposition - killing its' pilot in the attack, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, as quoted by AFP news agency.
"A military jet was shot down at Bir Qasab, in Damascus Province's southern area, killing its' pilot," said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights through a statement.
IS fighters uploaded the images of the stricken aircraft, as well as photographs of the deceased pilot on social media, after they shot down the aircraft on Thursday evening at the IS-held Damascus Province.
The hardline Islamist group and other rebel factions which are united in their cause to topple President Bashar al-Assad, have often targeted military jets that are flying above their territories.
The Observatory's Director, Rami Abdel Rahman, explained that IS had used an anti-aircraft missile to shoot down the fighter jet.
It is known that several areas within Damascus Province is held by IS rebels - especially in Qalamun, near the border with Lebanon.
Military jets and helicopters have continuously engaged in a bombing campaign from above rebel-held territories - that said, this operation has claimed a large number of civilian casualties, reported AFP.
