Pertamina Can Save US$3bn from Bontang Refinery

TEMPO.CO, Bogor - Rachmad Hardadi, processing director at state-run oil and gas company PT Pertamina (Persero), said Indonesia must build new refineries to meet fuel demand. To speed up construction, he proposed building a new refinery on a 650-hectare land owned by PT Badak NGL in Bontang, East Kalimantan.


In addition to faster construction, Rachmat said, using the land in Bontang will cut expenses in land acquisition and the construction of support facilities, estimated at some US$3 billion.


Pertamina projected that by 2025 the demand for Premium gasoline will reach 77 million kiloliters, while Solar diesel demand will reach 54 million kiloliters. Meanwhile, Pertamina projects that it can only produce 32 million kiloliters and 41 million kiloliters of Premium and Solar, respectively.


Pertamina is in the middle of preparing Refinery Development Masterplans (RDMP) for five refineries, namely Dumai, Plaju, Balikpapan, Balongan, and Cilacap.
