Jonan to Revoke Airlines without Airliners

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Transportation Minister Ignasius Jonan is planning to revoke the licenses of airlines with flight schedules but without having at least five airplanes beginning June 30, 2015. Jonan said that he would also revoke the permits of airlines that were bereft of flight schedules if they did not own at least one airplane.
“Otherwise, we will revoke their licenses,” Jonan said on Thursday, January 15, 2015.
Jonan admitted that he could not yet confirm whether there were airlines that failed to meet the requirements. He added that the requirements were set forth on the aviation bill that was passed in 2012. Transportation Ministry’s secretary for air transportation director general, Djoko Murdjatmo, said the regulation had yet to be enforced.
Based on Article 118(2) of the Law on Aviation, commercial airlines with flight schedules are required to own at least five airplanes, in addition to five others under its control. Meanwhile, an airline without flight schedules, as well as a cargo airline, must own at least one airplane and control at least two others.
The requirements apply to airlines that operate commercial air transportation businesses.
