TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ragunan zoo recorded almost 200,000 visitors on Thursday, January 1, 2015. The number of sold out tickets reflecting the only zoo in Jakarta is still favored by residents to spend holidays.
“There were 194,650 visitors this year,” said Ragunan zoo spokesman Wahyudi Bambang to Tempo on Friday, January 2.
According to Wahyudi, there are more families willing to spend holidays to see the animals. The number of visitors, Wahyudi said, was more than that during 2014 new year holiday and Christmas.
“Tourists prefer to crowd Ragunan during new year and Eid holidays,” Wahyudi added.
Ragunan is one of the oldest zoos in Indonesia. It was first built on ten-hectare land in Cikini, Central Jakarta owned by Raden Saleh 150 years back. The zoo was relocated to Ragunan in 1964 and occupying the land owned by DKI Jakarta Province Administration.
During the new year holiday season, tickets are sold at Rp4,000 for adults and Rp3,000 for children.
