Jakarta Deputy Governor: Minimarkets to Close if Violating Rules

TEMPO.CO , Jakarta - Deputy Governor of Jakarta Djarot Saiful Hidayat has ordered all district officials to note down all minimarkets in the area, in accordance to Regional Regulation No. 2/2002 on Private Market.
"The note will be evaluated. If some minimarkets turn out to be violating the regulation, we will shut them down,” said Djarot.
Djarot explained that the regulation says that minimarket cannot exceed 200 square meters. Moreover, it cannot be 500 meters away with traditional market.
He added that a minimarket cannot sell cheaper goods, compared to those of the surrounding stores. Violating the regulation, owner face three montsh of imprisonment and maximum fine of Rp5 million.
"I am not against minimarket. I am just establishing order," said Djarot.
