TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Jusuf Kalla said the government is preparing incentives to improve export performances amidst the US dollar gain against most currencies, including the rupiah. According to Kalla, the greenback's high exchange must be used as an opportunity to improve the trade balance and current account deficit.
"Investments will be given incentives such as tax holidays. In addition, the government is also preparing infrastructure as an incentive, not only in terms of money," Kalla said at the Presidential Office, Jakarta, yesterday.
Finance Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro said another incentive that can be given to boost export performance is tax allowance. According to Bambang, the government prioritizes the manufacturing sector to get this incentive. Saying that the sector has shown improvements since 2013, Bambang is certain that the sector could increase exports value amid a skyrocketing US dollar.
Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Sofyan Djalil said the the government is very serious about improving export performances through the manufacturing industry. "The Industry Minister will have a talk with investors to learn what incentives are needed and what difficulties are faced by the industry," he said.
