TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama said he was still awaiting the names of his deputy candidates from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P).
Who will they give to me? If [the qualifications] of those proposed to me are under Yani [Sarwo Handayani, a former deputy governor for spatial planning and environment], I will still choose Yani,” Ahok said after attending the anniversary event of the Indonesian Civil Servants’ Corps at the National Monument (Monas) on Monday, December 1, 2014.
Ahok said he had prepared two letters to be sent to the Home Affairs Ministry. “After the government regulation is signed, I will propose the name,” he said.
Earlier reports said the PDI-P was proposing two names to become Ahok’s deputy: PDI-P regional executive board chair Boy Sadikin and former Blitar mayor Djarot Syaiful Hidayat.
Of the two, Ahok said he preferred Djarot, allowing for his experience as a regional leader and that he was not familiar yet with civil servants in the capital. Besides Jarot, Ahok said he also favored Sarwo Handayani.
