Syrian Airstrikes Kill 95 in IS-held Raqa

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - At least 95 people have died after the Syrian government launched an airstrike over the city of Raqqa, which is a known stronghold held by the militant Islamist rebel group Islamic State (IS) on Tuesday, November 25, 2014, according to an observer group.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that at least 52 of the victims are civilians, but up until Wednesday, November 26, 2014, the group has yet to elaborate on whether the deceased are actually civilians or are in fact, IS fighters.
"A number of strikes came close to IS posts in the city," said Rami Abdel Rahman, the Director of the United Kingdom (UK) based organization.
Raqa is the first Syrian provincial capital to have fallen out of the control of the government into IS hands, who then had it declared as the capital of its' so-called 'caliphate'.
Previously, the city have also been repeatedly targeted by the United States (US) led military coalition in their effort to diminish the influence of the militant rebel group in the area.
