TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Social Security Agency (BPJS) plans on preparing cost-effective houses for workers, especially in industrial areas.
Vice President Jusuf Kalla promised Wednesday to assist BPJS director for manpower Elvyn G. Masassya in terms of regulations and operations so that the program could kick off in 2015.
"Including social insurance programs and pensions for private workers," Evlyn said at the Vice President Office in Wednesday, November 26, 2014.
BPJS believes it can furnish low-cost houses for workers on condition that there is cooperation with a third party.
The housing assistance can be obtained upon a down payment with a low interest rate. The maximum assistance is Rp50 million per unit. BPJS also plans to assist banking in paying off credits, also with a low interest rate. “There will be a coordination forum with the vice president,” she said.
The houses will be built in East Java, West Java, South Sulawesi and Sumatera. The budget for the down payment of the houses is already prepared at Rp200 billion. “We prioritize workers so that their productivity rises because they live close to the factory.”
As many as 16.2 million workers have become BPJS members. They make around Rp4.5 million per month.
