Beijing, Jakarta Establish Sister City Cooperation

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama said that Beijing will form a cooperation with Jakarta as both cities have have many similarities. "Beijing and Jakarta are similar," said Ahok on Thursday, November 20, 2014.
Talks for the cooperation were conducted during Beijing Mayor Wang Anshun's visit to the City Hall. Ahok said that Beijing will invest in waste management because the city has advanced waste management technology.
Beijing also offered Foton, a Chinese-made articulated bus, which was claimed by Anshun to have better quality than US products.
Ahok said that the meeting also discussed cooperation in culture, education and sport. Especially for sport, Jakarta athletes will visit Beijing to train under Chinese supervision. The training aims to prepare the athletes for Asian Games 2018.
In the matter of government, Ahok said that Beijing wanted to learn how Jakarta imposes property tax while Jakarta wanted to learn how Beijing acquires people's lands affected by government's projects. "Beijing is committed to work with us," said Ahok.
