Minister Luhut Meets South Korean Deputy of Trade, Industry, and Energy

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs and Investments Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan and South Korean Deputy Trade Minister of Trade, Industry, and Energy Y. M. Jang Young Jin, met on Tuesday to discuss potential partnerships in the field of high technology and innovation.
One of the aspects discussed by the two state officials includes a shared location focused on the development of fisheries and seaweed.
“As a country with an abundance of maritime resources, we are looking forward for Korea to open their market for Indonesian fisheries products,” Minister Luhut wrote in an official statement on Tuesday, May 16, 2023.
Luhut argued that the seaweed industry has a massive potential to be developed further and can even surpass oil and plastic raw materials.
“I hope we can create a joint team that can directly observe the potential in our seaweed. We can someday visit Buleleng, Bali, in July,” said Luhut.
The bilateral meeting also discussed issues related to the banking, insurance, and financial industries in addition to partnerships in the ecosystem of electric vehicles and lithium batteries, which was established in the partnership with Hyundai.
The meeting also discussed potential investments in healthcare and biotechnology with the South Korean official such as in the field of expert training, new medicine co-developing, essential medicine product cooperation, and the inauguration of the international hospital RS Ngoerah Bali with Sun Medical.
