TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) reported on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 that a minor who had sought refuge in its camp had been killed by a stray bullet.

The child perished amid heavy fighting between the Sudanese People's Liberation Army and Opposition forces in South Sudan, said UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric at a daily briefing at the UN Headquarters in New York.

"Six displaced civilians were also wounded in the violent exchange, and are now currently receiving treatments in the UN camp," continued Dujarric.

UNMISS said that fighting continued to rage on Thursday in Bentiu and Rubkhona, and clashes had been reported near UNMISS' camp, reported Xinhua. The UN mission is currently providing refuge and shelter for at least 50,000 displaced civilians from around Bentiu.

Previously on Sunday, October 26, 2014, more than 60 civilians were injured after fighting broke out at a refugee shelter near the UN House on the outskirts of South Sudan's capital, Juba.

UNMISS reported that four among the injured were still in a critical condition, while two UN armed peacekeepers were injured in the chaos.

Around 11,000 civilians have sought UNMISS protection around Juba, while more than 100,000 other civilians are currently housed by the UN at similar facilities that are scattered throughout the country.
