TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Council (DPRD) speaker Prasetyo Edi Marsudi said yesterday that state assets in the Capital should be handed over to the Jakarta administration to improve the city’s urban planning.

The Law Number 32 of 2004 on regional governments mandates that state assets should be managed by regional governments as a part of the regional autonomy policy. Prasetyo added that the state asset management carried out by the State Secretariat Ministry would harm regional government's authority, referring to cultural heritage losses in Jakarta.

President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo must soon issue a presidential decree to transfer the assets, said Prasetyo, adding that Jokowi had pledged to settle assets issues before having been inaugurated as the president.

Earlier, Jakarta Acting Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama asked the central government to hand over the state assets located in the Capital, including Bung Karno Stadium, to optimize the preparation for the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta.
