TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Twitter CEO Dick Costolo said that opening up a Twitter branch office in Indonesia is a right decision because Indonesia is one of the company's most important markets. In addition, Costolo said that Indonesians have high interest on technology.

"Indonesia is an important market for us. Many Indonesians actively use Twitter and make our social media as part of their daily activities," said Costolo in an interview with Tempo reporter Budi Setyarso on Wednesday, 8 October 2014.

According to Costolo, Jakarta has the largest number of Twitter users. “With total number of users reaching 2.7 million, Jakarta is the most active city in using Twitter," said Costolo.

He said that Twitter users in Indonesia are varied in their professions, ranging from athletes, politicians to musicians.

"[President-elect] Joko Widodo was even very popular on Twitter when the result of the election was announced," said Costolo.

Twitter office in Indonesia will not only deal with issues related to social media, but also act as a platform for communication, business and marketing media. "Twitter is the right media to communicate," Costolo said.
