TEMPO.CO, Beijing – In a speech to Communist Party leaders in Beijing, Chinese President Xin Jinping has said his country will safeguard Hong Kong and Macau’s prosperity and stability amid growing unrest in the territory.

As reported by BBC on Tuesday, Xi also reaffirmed that China had big influence on Hong Kong and that his government would “unswervingly implement the guidelines of ‘one country, two systems’ and the Basic Law, and steadfastly safeguard the long-term prosperity and stability of Hong Kong and Macau”.

Separately, Hong Kong leader Leung Chun-ying asked protesters to disband themselves, but the request was rejected and the protesters keep growing in numbers and demand Chung-ying to step down. Chun-ying refused to step down.

“Beijing won’t back down,” said Chun-ying.

Chun-ying is detested as he is considered as the mastermind of the rejection of direct elections in Hong Kong. Many observers said Chung-ying committed fraud in Hong Kong Executive Chief elections in 2012. Some even called him “rapacious wolf” who does not care about interests of the people of Hong Kong.
