TEMPO.CO, Algiers - An allied Islamic State (IS) group in Algiers has kidnapped a French citizen and announced on Monday he would be executed unless France ends its participation in airstrikes against the IS in Iraq.

The threat came a day after the spokesman for the IS, Abu Mohammad al-Adnani, urged followers to kill Europeans and Americans, and especially the French. The group has beheaded two American journalists and a British aid worker.

In a video appeared in the social media, a masked member of a group calling itself Jund al-Khilafah, or Soldiers of the Caliphate, warned French President Francois Hollande that it would execute the hostage if France does not end its military actions against the IS.

Herve Gourdel, a 55 year old mountain guide from Nice was kidnapped Sunday in Tizi Ouzou, 110 kilometers east of Algiers. This was confirmed by the French and Algiers authority.

Security sources said Algerian soldiers continued the search for Gourdel in the eastern mountains of Tizi Ouzou and Bouira, as reported by Ennahar Online. Counter-terrorist forces have also been deployed in the search.
