TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Daryanto, the corporate secretary of state-run airport operator Angkasa Pura II, said Thursday the special terminal for Indonesian migrant workers (TKI) at Soekarno-Hatta Airport will be closed this month, yet the exact date is still unknown.
According to Daryanto, the special terminal was not a real terminal, but rather a building operated by the Agency for the Placement and Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (BNP2TKI) to collect data on the arrival of the migrant workers. He added Angakasa Pura II, as the manager of the airport, only lent the land to the agency.
“The lending contract will expire in 2025, including all BNP2TKI’s facilities and officers,” said Daryanto.
After the terminal is closed, the data collection of TKI arrival will be moved to Common Use Lounge at the airport's International Arrival Terminal.
Daryanto said Angkara Pura II would not be disadvantaged by the move. “We’ve only got negative impressions from the existence of the special terminal for TKI because it’s not a terminal,” he said.
Previously, Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) deputy chief Bambang Widjojanto said the special terminal for TKI in Selapajang, Soekarno-Hatta would be shut following KPK’s joint inspection with the police, the UKP4 and Angkasa Pura II on July 27.
The inspection found 18 TKI extortionists. Prior to the inspection, calls for closure of the TKI terminal were also mounting following rampant extortions at the terminal against the migrant workers.
