TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Democrat Party Politician Ikhsan Modjo said that the potential leakage of the subsidized fuel quota this year should not be exaggerated because the government still has the budget to be used to cover the subsidy of up to Rp90 trillion.

"In the 2014 revised State Budget, there’s a back-up budget from the fiscal risks of around Rp5 trillion, not to mention the remaining budget that reaches Rp80 to 90 trillion," Ikhsan said on Saturday, August 30, 2014.

According to Ikhsan, from the calculation of state-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina, there is a potential of subsidized fuel quota shortage of 1.35 to 1.5 million kiloliter.

To cover the shortage, the government needs a budget of around Rp8 trillion until Rp10 trillion.

Ikhsan also said that from the back up fund of fiscal risks, the government can already collect a budget of Rp5 trillion, not to mention form other posts such as spending from ministries and institutions that can reach Rp2 to 3 trillion.

"The point is, we have the money and there’s no need to increase fuel price,” he said.

Previously, Marketing Director of PT Pertamina Hanung Budya said based on the calculation done by the company, the potential of subsidized fuel over q reaches 1.35 million kiloliter (KL).

"If the fuel selling restriction is stopped and the quota is not added, and we do nothing, based on our calculation, subsidized Premium and Solar will be used by December,” he said on Wednesday, August 27, 2014.
