TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The militant group, formerly known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Sham (ISIS), which presently goes by the name of Islamic State (IS) is believed to have executed hundreds of Syrian soldiers. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), the Syrian soldiers were captured when they were attempting to escape to Hama Province, after ISIS forces successfully took Taqba military base.

As quoted by BBC yesterday, SOHR also mentioned that according to the jihadist’s Twitter account, ISIS has executed 200 soldiers. The soldiers were captured when they were en route to Orontes Valley, which is still under the control of the Syrian government.

Previous reports suggest that at least 700 soldiers were based at Taqba military base when ISIS launched its attack. The fate of the remaining 500 soldiers remain unknown.

On Wednesday, ISIS uploaded a number of graphic and video evidence of executions. In the videos, around 100 people were forced to march at gunpoint, while the jihadists chanted: "Daulah Islamiyah! There is no turning back!."

Last week, another image made its round on the internet - showing a number of masked militias shooting seven soldiers at the backs of their heads, execution-data-style.
