TEMPO.CO, Paris - Two French citizens revealed the story behind the execution of United States journalist James Foley, describing their time together when they were held together by the Islamic State before being released on May. Speaking to the Global Post, the two Frenchmen mentioned that Foley was often tortured, because IS guards found a picture of his brother John Foley, a United States Army personnel.
One of the Frenchmen Didier François, told Europe 1 that Foley, whose decapitation footage shocked the world, was once crucified on the wall. The other former hostage, Nicholas Henin, claimed that Foley was considered to be a scapegoat by IS militia because of his US citizenship.
Prior to his execution, IS has demanded US$ 132 million ransom for Foley's release, in which the US Government refused to pay. Phil Balboni, Global Post CEO, said that the ransom is much higher than that of other citizens due to the fact that Foley is a US citizen.
Earlier in July, US military personnel had initiated a rescue mission to liberate Foley. The mission failed because the US military raided the wrong place.
