Migrant Care Discovers "Ghost" Voters Overseas

TEMPO.CO Jakarta Migrant Care Executive Director Anis Hidayah said there were a significant number of ghost voters found on the list of the final voter list (DPT) overseas. Based on her team’s observation at 60 polling stations in Kuala Lumpur, many voters were not registered on the DPT.
"Most of voters were not on the list. Our preliminary analysis indicated that there were many ghost voters on the final voter list overseas, and it was proven," Anis told Tempo earlier this morning.
The voter turnout in the overseas presidential election in Kuala Lumpur has increased by almost 90 percent to 8,986 voters compared to the legislative election with around 5,000 voters. The increasing participation was because presidential candidates were more popular than the legislator ones.
The overseas voting was held on July 4-6, 2014 in 130 cities. Although it was held earlier than that in Indonesia, the ballot tally for overseas and domestic election will be conducted simultaneously on Wednesday, July 9, 2014.
