TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Budi Hendro, general manager of Jakarta Air Traffic Service Center Airnav Indonesia, said on Thursday, July 3, 2014, that 30 percent of airline companies have disobey regulations and schedules, causing flights to be delayed.
Since June 26, 2014, Airnav or the Indonesian Flight Navigation Service Organizer Bodies (LPPNPI) has set the optimum number of runway occupancy time for planes in Soekarno-Hatta Airport. Based on the system, takeoff time is reduced from 110 seconds to 90 seconds while landing time is decreased from 65 seconds to 50 seconds. These procedures will hopefully prevent delays and reduce the intensity of airport traffic.
However, Budi said that most airlines still have poor time management. A lot of them failed to coordinate with LPPNPI when they are experiencing delays, which causes the next flight schedule to be delayed further and forced planes that will take off or land to wait in queue, leading to more expensive operating costs. "Airlines should be ready and confirm to air traffic manager 30 minutes before taking off," he said.
LPPNPI discovered that 80 percent of flight delays are caused by flight crews waiting for passengers to board. "Ironically, there was once a delay caused by waiting for just one passenger," he said. Another cause is unsolved catering problem, limited planes and weather. Some airlines also do not comply with the procedures of distribution of flight time, causing stacking of passengers during golden time.
In order to solve these issues, Budi said that he has held a meeting with airline companies. Airport authority and LPPNPI will impose sanctions for planes that are late starting on July 10.
