TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Sangeang Api volcano in Bima Regency, West Nusa Tenggara has erupted on Friday, at 15:55 local time. There has yet any report about human victims resulted from the eruption. The Information and Public Relation Head of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, said that the volcanic ashes spewed from the eruption were mostly gone to the sea.
Sangeang Api volcano had previously spewing volcanic ashes and materials that fell on seven villages in Bima regency including Wera, Sape, Ambalawi, and Wawo.
"The volcanic ash cloud was blown up to 3 kilometers westbound from the Sangeang Api peak," said Bima Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Head, Abdul Wahab.
Sangeang Api volcano is located in the Sangeang Api Island where permanent human habitation was banned since the major eruption in 1985. The island is currently used for farmlands and only inhabited during the planting (August to November) and harvest time (March to May).
