TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Police Headquarters said terrorist groups seemed to have changed their attack strategies. Police spokesman Brig. Gen. Boy Rafli Amar said terrorists were now using firearms rather than home-made bombs.
"This change in pattern was revealed from a document we seized from a terrorist," said Boy last Friday, August 23, 2013.
He stated the altered strategy was discovered from writings, compact disc recordings, and a footage showing a terrorist training. Referring to this data, the recent cop shootings had made more sense, said Boy.
Boy added the terrorist groups were currently aiming their attack at police as a form of revenge. They deemed the police to be the most persistent institution in battling terrorism, he explained.
During the past month, there were three cases of police shootings that claimed the lives of four policemen. The National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) has confirmed that these cop killings were committed by long-existing terrorr cells.
BNPT chief Ansyaad Mbai said these groups had long been targeting state apparatus in their attempt to take over the state and found an Islamic nation.
