TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A lecturer of the University of Indonesia's (UI) Faculty of Politics and Social Sciences Ade Armando has been declared a suspect in the defamation case involving the university’s former director of student affairs, Kamaruddin. Ade also believes that the accusations against him were slander.
"This is just an effort to cover and distract the attention from the graft practices in the UI campus," said Ade, contacted by Tempo on Sunday, June 16. Ade, an activist of the 'Clean UI' movement, was summoned by the Jakarta police as suspect on Saturday, June 15.
Ade said that he was charged for defamation and for insulting Kamarudin in an article posted on his personal blog, http://adearmando.wordpress.com.
Ade posted the articles on January 29 and March 4, 2012. Ade wrote that he never definitively stated that Kamarudin committed graft. Ade only exposed the alleged graft practices in the campus which included the manipulation of scholarship funds.
