TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Michael Stevens, CEO of PT Kresna Securities, said that the low numbers of domestic investor in stock market was caused by the lack of stock market education.''They are frightened of stories saying that investment in stock market is not profitable,'' he said.

Currently, the number of domestic investors in Indonesia has reached 300,000. Meanwhile in Singapore, 30 percent of the country's 5.3 million total population are domestic investors.

Michael asserted that both regulators and fund managers must cooperate in educating the the public so that they can compete with foreign investors.

"If we do not learn about investment in stock market, out money will go to foreign parties that have higher degree of education," he said.

Moreover, Michel explained that in relation to the ASEAN Economic Community 2015, Indonesia, which has the biggest market in ASEAN, must be able to compete with foreign powers. "If domestic investors fail to take the opportunity, the country will be invaded by foreign investors,'' said Michael.
