TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The limited number of green open spaces (RTH) has been declared a priority for the current Jakarta administration. The new Jakarta Parks Board director Widio Wiyono Budi has set a target of an additional 80 hectares of green space this year. “They will be spread across Jakarta’s five regions; we already have the inventory,” said Widio on Wednesday, April 3.
Based on Jakarta’s Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMD), the province has set the target for additional green spaces in the city by 30 percent over the next 20 years. “Public spaces only cover 9 percent and we are aiming to fulfill the 30-percent figure within the next 20 years,” said Widio.
Widio has also received orders from Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo to reorganize the capital city’s disorganized environment—the city is ‘decorated’ with unregulated banners and dense pollution affects quality of life.
Some of Jakarta’s primary parks to be revitalized soon include the gardens along Jalan Sudirman, Sisingamangaraja, Kelapa Gading, Kembangan Slipi, Grogol and Daan Mogot.
