TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan highlighted the city's challenges in dealing with urban problems during the series of events of the U20 Mayors Summit. According to him, the city's development is based on private vehicles for the past few years.
“For decades, Jakarta's urban management focuses on private vehicle-oriented development, resulting in the excessive use of private vehicles,” said Anies at Fairmont Hotel, Jakarta, Tuesday, August 30, 2022.
At present, Anies stated that the provincial government reforms urban management into Transit Oriented Development (TOD) which emphasizes the use of public transportation on a large scale. "In a bid to reduce congestion and carbon emissions, provide vertical and dense buildings, as well as integration," said the Governor.
He assessed that the lack of investment in basic services has led to poor services. Jakarta is thus developing massive basic services to improve the quality of life of its people.
“We have worked on the main urban development programs in Jakarta, such as JakLingko, JakHabitat, flood mitigation, clean water, and social security programs,” he outlined.
Therefore, as a city of collaboration, Anies Baswedan said Jakarta must tighten partnerships with various stakeholders to ensure the sustainable development of the capital.
