TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The International Monetary Fund (IMF) team,headed by Anoop Singh, the IMF Deputy Director for the Asia-Pacific region,met President Megawati Sukarnoputri at the State Palace in Jakarta today(20/08). Coordinating Minister for the Economy Dorodjatun Kuntjoro-Jaktialso attended the 1-hour meeting.
Dorodjatun said that during the meeting the IMF team stated their readinessto continue with talks on the IMF-Indonesia Letter of Intent (LoI). "Iexpect these talks will be settled within a week. As such, the results willbe immediately delivered to IMF's head office in Washington DC," Dorodjatunstated. However, he declined to reveal the proposed content of themeetings.
Anoop also declined to reveal the draft of the meetings that were to becarried out by his team andIndonesia's economic team this week. In his view, the IMF is veryoptimistic about the meetings. The IMF team will deliver the meetings'results on Monday next week (27/08). However, the IMF believes Indonesia'seconomic team has a strong commitment to speeding up the implementation ofthe LoI programs.
