BPS Warns The Government on Inflation

TEMPO Interaktif , Jakarta :
Statistics Indonesia (BPS) predicted West Java Inflation rate to surpass two digits figure next month if there is no curbing on purchasing. Lukman Ismail, Head of West Java BPS said on monday in Bandung, the inflation rate from Januari to August this year had reached 9,64%. The rising price of goods after the government hiked the LPG price and the annual rise of prices before Idul Fitri will push the inflation rate higher in September.
Lukman said, “the province's inflation rate in August alone is at 0,57%, the government should curb the rise of price, and maintain the people's purchasing power. During the month, education, tourism, sports, and healthcare are the four main sectors which brought the inflation to the level.
BPS report showed seven major cities in West Java that are experiencing inflation, with the highest recorded in Sukabumi.
