TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan highlighted the dengue fever threat and the need to pay more attention to this issue after the city’s record shows a rising number of sufferers from 2017 to 2019.

According to Anies Baswedan, dengue fever in January 2017 saw 665 cases which left one person dead. Meanwhile, the following year in January 2018 Anies said that the city’s agency recorded a drop to 198 cases but risen again to 370 cases in 2019.

“The numbers itself are frightening especially since it is 23 January. This is a warning considering that last year saw only 198 sufferers,” said the Governor at Central Jakarta on January 23.

According to the governor, the city’s administration has coordinated its efforts with the Health Ministry and based on his statement, the cases of dengue fever are expected to rise this year.

Anies Baswedan has ordered agencies to conduct a widespread ’fogging’ as a means to fight the health threat and calls for Jakartans to prepare by cleaning-out any puddles and locations that might unintentionally support the breed of Aedes mosquitos.
