KAI Train Trips for Christmas, New Year Holidays Up 5 Percent

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State railway company Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) has prepared 346 regular and 48 extra train trips to welcome the 2019 Christmas and New Year holidays. KAI's VP of Public Relations Agus Komarudin said the number increased by five percent from the previous year.
“The total number of trains (KA) to serve the community during the Christmas and New Year holidays this time is 394,” Agus said, Monday, December 3.
Agus explained the 48 extra train trips could accommodate 27,560 passengers per day. It will start operating from December 20 until January 7, 2019. The Brantas Tambahan and Mataram Premium trains, meanwhile, will kick off operations on December 13.

Agus explained this year KAI would ready 444 locomotives, 1 spare locomotive and 1,637 train units, plus 218 spare train units.
KAI also prepared 6,172 security personnel consisting of 1,332 Polsuska (train special police) personnel and 3,876 security personnel. KAI will also receive 950 personnel from the Armed Forces (TNI) and the National Police, including K-9 dogs.
“It will be done on a mobile basis as well, patrolling the railway lines and other important objects such as locomotives and trains,” said Agus.
