TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the Jokowi - Ma`ruf Amin campaign team, Abdul Kadir Karding, casually responded to Bahar bin Smith`s insistence to not issue an apology after publically insulting the incumbent presidential hopeful at a religious event several days ago.
Bahar bin Smith recently said that he would rather go to jail rather than apologizing to the president. Responding to the attitude shown by the preacher, Karding said Bahar’s refusal to apologize is his personal right.
“I think that it is Bahar bin Smith’s rights if he does not want to issue an apology,” said Karding to Tempo today, who regrets that the preacher showed remorse in insulting a state leader.
Previously, Bahar bin Smith swore in the name of God that he would prefer prison if he is proven guilty; “If they force me to apologize, in the name of Allah, I would rather rot in prison than to have to issue an apology,” he said.
Furthermore, Karding maintained that a religious preacher should learn from Islam’s Prophet Rasullulah Muhammad PBUH (peace be upon him) and take an example of the Prophet’s compassion, which is one of the legacies left behind by the Prophet.
