Developers Apathetic after Anies Quashed Reclamation Permit

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Colliers International Indonesia`s Associate Director Investment Service, Aldi Garibaldi, deemed Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan`s decision to revoke the permit of the Jakarta Bay reclamation project will hamper the city`s property investments climate.
“So then, why would anyone bother to invest? Since this project actually has a permit but was then revoked,” said Aldi on Thursday, September 27.
A number of established private property companies were previously involved in the Jakarta Bay reclamation project, such as Agung Podomoro Group, Agung Sedayu Group, and Intiland development.
Meanwhile, regionally-owned companies like the Jakarta Properti and Pembangunan Jaya, and state-owned companies such as Pelindo II have also put their share in the project.
Aldi said that the developers would have actually created work and could have presented a major contribution. “The real estate contributes directly and indirectly to the GDP growth. Now developers would be apathetic to invest in fluctuant projects,” he said, predicting that interchangeable policies will also drive away foreign investors from Jakarta.
Previously, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan decided to revoke the principle permit of 13 reclamation islands that were handed to the developers after the governor deemed that the permits do not meet the necessary requirements such as its design and the environmental impact analyses (Amdal).
