Yenny Wahid`s Support Believed to Bolster Jokowi-Ma`ruf Camp

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The campaign team for presidential and vice presidential hopefuls Jokowi – Ma’ruf Amin believes that Yenny Wahid`s support for the pair will further strengthen the chance for the incumbent candidate to win the 2019 presidential election.
“Based on a poll published on Wednesday, September 2, concluded that Jokowi - Ma’ruf Amin’s electability is 57.7 percent. Meanwhile, the Prabowo – Sandiaga camp is 32.3 percent,” said Hasto Kristiyanto, Jokowi – Ma’ruf Amin’s campaign team secretary at the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) headquarters in Menteng yesterday.

Furthermore, Hasto said that the campaign team highly appreciates the support shown by a known public figure such as Yenny Wahid. “This is Yenny Wahid’s political right to determine her stance,” said Hasto.
Yenny Wahid said that the choice came after a deliberation between numerous Gus Dur cadres upon the visions offered by each presidential candidate. Meanwhile, spiritually Yenny Wahid’s camp were advised by nine Ulemas and kyai (Islamic teachers).
Yenny Wahid, the daughter of the fourth Indonesian president K.H. Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur) explained that despite declaring support for Jokowi – Ma’ruf, her mother Sinta Nuriyah Wahid opted to maintain neutrality.
