TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Directorate General of Immigration deported Taiwanese national Elsa May for allegedly disrupting the 2018 Asian Games paragliding event in Puncak, Bogor, on Wednesday, August 22.
“Taiwan citizen Elsa May was deported today on a China Airline headed to Taipei from Soekarno Hatta Airport at 12:30,” said Immigration’s Spokesman Agung Sampurno yesterday, August 22.
Agung explained that Elsa had allegedly disrupted the succession of the Asian Games' paragliding event held in Gunung Mas, Puncak, West Java. Agung said that Elsa had used an ID card that belonged to someone else even though she was not an athlete, official, or any accessory of the Asian Games sporting events.
Not only did Elsa used a fake ID, said Agung, she also illegally entered an event’s technical meeting on August 18 and asked a series of unnecessary questions that interrupted the meeting.
Paragliding competition manager Wahyu Yuda Dewanto said that he was first made aware of the incident during the paragliding event on Monday, August 20.
“We were made aware of an athlete’s protest on the relaunch conducted by the Indonesian national team,” confirmed Wahyu to Tempo yesterday. He said that he confronted Elsa during the event and found that she was neither an athlete nor an official member.
“Worst of all, she used her friend’s Asian Games ID card to enter the athlete’s tent,” said Wahyu. However, he explained that Elsa admits her wrongdoing and has already apologized for her actions before being asked to leave the 2018 Asian Games competition arena.
