Bekraf Attempts to Unite Startups with Silicon Valley Investors

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Creative Economy Agency (Bekraf) picked a number of Indonesian startup companies to participate in the 2018 Global Ventures Summit (GVS) which meets selected investors from Silicon Valley.
“Indonesian startups could share discussions with international panelists from incubators, accelerators, mentors, partners, and investors,” said Bekraf Deputy of Infrastructure Hari Santosa Sungkari in a press release today.
Facilitating the startups would correspond with the agency’s main task in building the domestic startup ecosystem and present or open the possibility of collaborating with startup stakeholders.
The 2018 GVS is set to be held in Jakarta on April 25-April 27 which will connect more than 100 venture capitals and 200 angel investors in four cities the GVS will be hosted such as Mexico, Los Angeles, Dubai, and Jakarta.
Several investors that will be present in the event includes Lo Toney from Google Ventures, Joshua Slayton from AngelList, and Jay Eum from Translink Capital. This event will also see a pitch battle competition with US$50,000 prize money and a visit to Silicon Valley.
Up until 2017, Indonesia has had four unicorns or startups that are valued above US$1 billion ranging from e-commerce, on-demand services, and Fintech. The latest in 2018 operate within logistics, digital enablers, talent scouting, agriculture and IOT technology use, block chain and artificial intelligence.
