TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The price of a one-way ticket for mass rapid transit or MRT trains is estimated to be pegged at Rp18,000. MRT Finance Director Jakarta Tuhiyat said the tariff was based on the assumed number of 173,000 daily passengers. "The tariff will be around those figures," said Tuhiyat in Jakarta, Thursday, March 1.
Tuhiyat added the assumption was based on a 2013 survey, and that MRT Jakarta was prepping another survey to update the data. However, he said the tariff would most likely remain and in the neighborhood of Rp17,000-20,000.
He explained the results of the next survey, which would be completed in March, would later be sent to the Jakarta administration as a basis to determine the amount of its subsidy.

He added decisions on MRT tariff, subsidy and assets should have been made by mid-year so they could be included in the 2019 Regional State Budget.
Tuhiyat estimated MRT Jakarta would be able to operate independently sans subsidy beginning 2030. He added, however, that this is only possible provided that a one-way ticket is priced at Rp18,000 and daily passengers reach 173,000.
He went on to explain that other affecting factors were non-ticket revenue reaching 15 percent with 10 percent in profit. He said with this combination, if each MRT passenger pays Rp10,000, the subsidy will end in 2013.
