TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bank Indonesia (BI) governor Agus Martowardojo will retire in May this year. President Joko `Jokowi` Widodo said his successor must be someone whom the public and the market can trust.
“Without a doubt, BI Governor should be able to provide market confidence over our macroeconomics, monetary, inflation, public and market trust,” Widodo said after attending the 68th-anniversary event of the University of Indonesia, Friday.

The president said he has not proposed candidates names.
Potential candidates must be submitted to the House of Representatives (DPR) by the end of February. Then, the House will have a series of tests over the candidates’ skills, knowledge and proficiencies.
As for the position of The central bank’s deputy governor, the president has submitted a letter to the DPR on January 15, in which he proposed three candidates.
The candidates are Dody Budi Waluyo, Doddy Zulverdi, and Wiwiek Sisto Widayat. These are the same people who were proposed by Agus Martowardojo.
