20,000 Cops Deployed to Guard 2017 Christmas Celebration

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Police chief Insp. Gen. Idham Azis stated that police are ready to maintain security for Christmas and 2018 New Year. He explained that two-thirds of Jakarta Police personnel will be deployed to guard 2017 Christmas and 2018 New Year.
"Jakarta Police are ready to guard Christmas and New Year. Two-thirds of Jakarta Police personnel will be deployed," he stated in South Jakarta on Friday, Dec. 8.

Jakarta Police spokesperson Com. Sr. Raden Prabowo Argo Yuwono added that the Jakarta Police currently have 30,000 personnel which means around 20,000 personnel will be deployed.
Idham mentioned that the operation referred to as Candle Operation will be carried out for 10 days starting from December 23, 2017, to January 1, 2018. Jakarta Police, Idham went on, are still waiting for the details of the operation from the Police Headquarters.
Idham said that the operation will focus on guarding a number of vital places such as churches. In addition, the police will also focus on traffic and residential areas without residents who leave their houses to spend the long holiday.
