Jakarta Police Deploy 10,000 Personnel to Secure Eid al-Adha

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Metro Police will deploy 10,000 personnel supported by Indonesian Military and Jakarta Administration to secure long holiday of Eid al-Adha celebration—Islamic Day of Sacrifice—next Friday.
"Police will assign around 7,000-8,000 personnel added by related agencies which add up to 9,000-10,000 personnel in Regional Police jurisdiction," Police deputy chief Brig. Gen. Suntana said in Jakarta on Friday, August 25.
Suntana stated that the police will guard the sites of distribution of sacrificed meat with the potential of strife. The police will also provide assistance to record and arrange residents who receive the meat.
Suntana said that Polda Metro Jaya have carried out a coordination meeting with related agencies to prepare security measures for Eid al-Adha. In addition, security will be tightened up in a number of tourism sites including Ragunan Zoo, TMII, Ancol and National Monument (Monas).
Furthermore, a policy through Transporation Ministry is issued to limit trucks and large vehicles from operating on the highway in order to reduce traffic during Eid al-Adha long holiday.
"We also urge residents to perform takbir (Praise to Allah) chanting in their neighborhood and not on the streets," he added.
