Jokowi, Anies Baswedan Not Discuss Jakarta Bay Reclamation

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The meeting between President Jokowi, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan, and his deputy Sandiaga Uno reviewed six topics of discussions.
Also presented at the meeting were Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi, and Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono. Discussions regarding the Jakarta Bay reclamation was not mentioned at the meeting took place at Merdeka Palace.
“We did not talk about the [Jakarta Bay] reclamation project,” said Anies Baswedan on Wednesday, October 25. When asked whether the reclaimed island would be designated for a different use from its original plan, he said, “we’ll talk about that later.”

Anies Baswedan stated that the main point of the meeting was the preparation for the 2018 Asian Games. Palembang and Jakarta will be the host of the Asian sporting event. “We must be prepared for that,” he said.
The meeting also talked about the mass rapid transit project, the city’s infrastructure such as the newly revitalized sidewalks, how to overcome the notorious flooding problems and reorganize the city’s slum areas.
Anies Baswedan said that he would reorganize the 220 community groups (RW) that are categorized as slum areas in Jakarta, “We will reorganize the slums the best we can,” said the Former Education Minister.
