TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Riza Patria, deputy chairman of the House of Representatives' Commission II overseeing government affairs, said the House would deliberate the government regulation in lieu of law (Perpu) on mass organizations in this plenary session period. According to Riza, the House leaders have received the government’s letter regarding the bill.

“The letter from the government has been received by the House leaders. They have had a meeting with the House’s Steering Committee (Bamus),” Riza told Tempo at the Senayan Parliamentary Complex in Jakarta on Tuesday, August 22.

Riza explained that the Commission II had held an internal meeting to decide the deliberation schedule.

Earlier in mid-July, the government has submitted the draft bill to the House leaders. Under the applicable laws and regulations, before the law is passed, the Perpu must be approved by the House. Meanwhile, a number of mass organizations are seeking ways to prevent the law from being ratified by requesting a judicial review with the Constitutional Court (MK).

Riza, who is a politician from the Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party, revealed that his party stays firm on its decision to reject the Perpu.

Meanwhile, Fandi Utomo, a lawmaker from the Democratic Party has not yet received an official letter from the House leaders. Fadli admitted that he has not yet received instructions regarding the Perpu from Democratic Party chairman Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

“There is no instruction yet. But if the Perpu was to be decided by the Commission II, I would definitely request an instruction,” he said.

Currently, six factions at the House, namely the Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), the United Development Party (PPP), the National Awakening Party (PKB), the National Democratic Party (NasDem), the People’s Conscience Party (Hanura), and the Functional Group Party (Golkar) support the law. Meanwhile, four other factions, namely the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), Gerindra, the Democratic Party, and the National Mandate Party (PAN) reject the Perpu.
