TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National Movement to Safeguard the Indonesian Ulema Council's Fatwa (GNPF MUI) plan to hold a rally to demand government to annul Regulation in Lieu of Law (Perpu) on mass organization (Ormas). The protest is planned to be held on the upcoming 28 July.

GNPF-MUI Legal Representative Kapitra Ampera said that the rally will be attended by a number of mass organizations in Indonesia. "Yes, that’s right, this protest is triggered by the issuance of Perpu Ormas and the disbandment of HTI," Kapitra said on Sunday (23/7).

Kapitra stated that issuing Perpu Ormas is not a good step because this regulation can be considered limiting the citizens’ rights. This protest called 287 rally will be kicked off by performing Friday prayer in Istiqlal Mosque and followed by a long march from Istiqlal to the Presidential Palace.

"We will deliver our protests in front of the Presidential palace and submit a petition demanding government to annul the Perpu Ormas," Kapitra explained.
