TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Following a bilateral meeting in Ankara, Turkey, Indonesian President Joko Widodo or Jokowi and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed commitment to bringing back positive trade and investment trends in Indonesia and Turkey.
The collaboration would be strengthened through the Indonesia-Turkey Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IT-CEPA).
“We would like to reduce trade barriers and create a positive investment climate,” said President Joko Widodo or Jokowi in a press release received by Tempo on Friday, July 7.
In addition to strengthening bilateral partnership in the trade sector, the two countries are planning to improve cooperation in the defense sector. President Jokowi positively welcomed the launch of the Kaplan Medium Tank jointly-produced by both countries. President Jokowi said that Turkey has agreed to collaborate with Indonesia in producing submarines and trucks.
Indonesia is also aiming at partnering with Turkey in the energy sector to provide electricity for several Indonesian islands.
“The cooperation will include power ship utilization,” President Jokowi said.
President Jokowi is currently in a two-day work visit to Turkey. He is scheduled to be in Germany to attend the G20 Summit.
