According to Pudji, in 2016, the number of private cars used during homecoming was 3.48 million and motorcycles was 5.14 million. On the other hand, the number of public transport vehicles is expected to fall 2 percent. Some 4.43 million passengers used public transport last year. The Ministry has called on the people not to use motorcycle to travel home for safety reasons.
Free homecoming program is a solution to reduce the number of motorists. The Ministry is working close with private companies and other agencies to carry out the program.
